“My wife and I were nervous about rafting in class III and IV’ish rapids. Considering we are in our late 50’s. Besides being totally exhausted when we finish our run we were completely impressed with the operation.  Wren was our guide and he did an exemplary job.  If we are using a scale of 1-10, I would give Wren a 10. He was very informative about what to expect, especially safety procedures in the event one of us fell in.  He especially made my wife feel comfortable and relaxed during our trip.  Wren made this such an enjoyable outing.  We did the Rio Grande Racecourse which was a rush.  Kokopelli Rafting did an outstanding job coordinating our trip. If you go ask for Wren. He is the best. The price for the two of us was very reasonable. Five stars in my book and I am very critical about customer service.

A memorable Racecourse ride!
“We were a group of five adults that went on a half day, morning Rio Grande Race Course trip with Wren as our guide. Kokopelli is an excellent company that stresses safety and really goes over how to stay in the boat and stay safe and in the event you fall out or flip, what to do to get back in the boat. By the time Wren had gone over all the details, we were very comfortable with going into the water for a class four ride. We can’t say enough about Wren’s skills, he truly is an exceptional guide and kept us safe and comfortable but led us through remarkable rapids that took our breath away. Thanks to Wren we had a great experience that we will always remember.

Rio Grande Rafting!
“We had a very positive experience with Kokopelli rafting company. Wren was our guide and his experience was evident in how we maneuvered the rapids in low water. We plan on coming back in June when the water levels are traditionally higher.”

Best Bucket-list Trip!!
“What an awesome day on the Rio Grande today! We LOVED it! Wren, our guide, was fantastic! He had great information, facts, and funnies about the scenes along the way! We have never white water rafted before and this was a great experience!!! Bucket list item checked off and we will certainly do it again with Kokopelli!!”

Fun Rio Grande Rafting trip!
“We did the half day rafting trip last Wednesday with Wren as our guide. We had a great time! We were all first timers and weren’t really sure what to expect. Wren was a great guide, giving clear instructions and also telling us interesting facts and stories as we went down the Rio Grande. We definitely would do this again!”

Great Experience!
“Wren picked us up promptly at the visitor center for our adventure. This was the first time we ever rafted as we have a little boy. We went on the half day Rio Grande Float and at the end, wished we had done the full day. Wren was so knowledgeable and friendly. He was attentive to our little one’s questions and provided excellent direction. We always felt safe though I am afraid of water. Time just flies when you’re on the river. The views are great. There were plenty of great spots to swim in. At the end of the river trip, we finished with a snack and Wren served all of our favorite things. He found us a private picnic table up a trail by a huge cotton wood tree. We will be back for sure! Thank you for a great experience!”

MEET WREN

My name is Wren Freeman and I've been a raft guide since 2013. I'm originally from Dunwoody, GA and I've always had a passion for the outdoors.

I grew up in the Boy Scouts, which is where I found my love for the river. Shortly after college, I started a summer job guiding rafts on several rivers in North Carolina. I quickly discovered that raft guiding was my calling and something I wanted to keep doing and have been a guide ever since!

I love anything related to the outdoors, especially action sports like whitewater kayaking, climbing, and skiing. There’s so much to see and do outside. I think it’s good for the soul and I love sharing it with others. When I’m not working on the river during the off-season, I’m a ski instructor at Taos Ski Valley, where I’ve been teaching for two seasons. I love being an outdoor professional. It has given me the chance to have experiences that many don’t get the change to experience. For that, I’m very fortunate!

Kokopelli Guide: since 2017
Favorite Color: Whitewater
Favorite river and why: My favorite river is the Tellico River in Tennessee. It’s a 5-mile section of the river with about 5 waterfalls on it. They range from 5 feet to about 25 feet tall. Most of them are very safe. The best way I can describe it is it’s just good, clean fun!
My favorite river-related story is: When I was guiding in North Carolina, I took an 82 year old woman down the river in a double ducky. She wasn’t the least bit nervous and was having the time of her life (her words)! It was an awesome trip for both of us!
Certifications: ACA Level 4 Paddle-raft instructor, ACA Level 3 Oar-raft instructor, Wilderness First Aid, CPR.
Hobbies: Whitewater kayaking, skiing, climbing, playing Chess while maneuvering the rapids
